We’re the UK’s Leading Challenger Consulting & Modern Software Engineering Firm

We deliver projects, services, and consultancy, as well as implement business strategy, change and technology solutions.

We run a purely UK based, modernised, software and product engineering capabilty to increase both capabilty and capacity for clients as a partner or a supplier.

We’re organised via several ‘Consulting Practices’ which operate as vertical business units within the Group, each with their own organisational leader. Our practices then all utilise our shared horizonal capabilities such as resourcing, finance, legal and HR. Unlike top4 consultancies, our practice leaders don’t carry sales targets or charge ‘partner rates’ during implementation projects.

They are all primarily expert practitioners in their own field of expertise. They are responsible for developing their own business unit strategy, service portfolio and ensuring the highest client delivery quality.

  • 2010 – CTO Plus 10% 10%

An early pioneer of ‘fractional‘ or ‘Gig-Economy‘ Consulting, CTO Plus was launched to provide high end technology advisory services to large and small enterprises on a temporary or part-time basis.

  • 2011 – The Strategy & Architecture Group 30% 30%

With the rise in popularity of Enterprise Architecture, together with a client base increasingly keen to engage experts and teams rather than individuals without any support, we set about focusing our core services on delivering all things ‘architecture’. From developing business Target Operating Models through to delivering Enterprise Architecture people, services, and solutions. We quickly became the leading provider of specialist architecture services including business, data, applications, infrastructure, security, and focused solutions architecture. An enviable position we still enjoy today.

  • 2013 – The Firm of Firms 40% 40%

Building on our position as a leader in Business and IT Strategy & Architecture, we began to widen our capabilities by adopting a stronger partnering model, working with a select number of independent firms and delivering our expertise through brands such as Top4 Consulting Firms and Systems Integrators. We became a silent sub-contractor to some of the largest, highest profile change programmes in the UK.

  • 2015 – The S&A Group 60% 60%

By 2015, The Strategy & Architecture Group was delivering a much wider spectrum of consulting, project delivery, IT, Business & Digital Transformation initiatives across public and private sectors. The brand became widely known as The S&A Group, reflecting our retained expertise in Strategy & Architecture but also the acceptance that the business had well outgrown its original S&A offerings. By 2015, S&A were leading a range of client solutions from 2-3 man assignments to £100m whole of business transformations.Directly via our own brand or as a subservient, expert trusted partner, to much larger high street consulting brands.  

  • 2017 – Moorfield Holdings Venture Capital 70% 70%

As the company dealt with more and more VC and PE companies, as well as the start-up and scale up entrepreneurial communities, we established Moorfield Holdings as a vehicle to fund and grow our investments in other companies.

  • 2019 – S&A Resourcing Solutions 80% 80%
To completely distance our high-end consulting services from the interim resourcing solutions we’d naturally fallen into providing for some clients, we incorporated Resourcing Solutions (“RS”)  to both provide resourcing solutions to our own Group, but also to deliver them directly to our end clients. (“RS”) began to offer traditional search and selection as well as exclusive retained services.
  • 2022 – The S&A Academy 90% 90%
Recognising our reliance on a continuous stream of junior professional talent joining the Group, we incorporated The S&A [Transform] Academy. The Academy is an Ofsted regulated and ESFA approved training provider for government funded apprenticeships and specialist commercial training. It provides free recruitment and professional training for our own, and our clients, existing and new employees within the Technology & Digital, Business & Leadership and Science & Laboratory job disciplines.
  • 2023 – The S&A Transform Group 95% 95%

We officially changed our registered name to sit better with our close sibling companies and associate ourselves with the much larger global transformations we currently deliver.

  • 2023 – Modern Engineering & Web3 100% 100%

For years we’ve designed and driven advancements in our client’s technology development and business innovations teams. Successfully launching new products in complex markets like FS, retail, Insurtech, DeFi and Web3. We’d avoided being the ‘builders’, focusing more on leading the builders. So, leveraging our deep expertise in product design and development, we launched the Modern Engineering practice. This service delivers consulting to help clients improve their own product development capabilities as welldelivers high end, on-shore, managed engineering teams to add short term capacity and/or capability to existing businesses.

So it was at the last minute we brought in S&A to help hit critical milestones. They immediately redesigned the whole programme, including the technology solution and release roadmap.
